The Red Road
Jason as Khal Drogo in Game Of Thrones. Season 1 M-Net Edge (*102) 19:00 Action
Six years after he was killed in season 1 of fantasy series Game Of Thrones (2011 -current), big bad Jason Momoa is still a fan favourite as Dothraki warlord Khal Drogo. And he’s continuing his rebel ways in two-season action drama The Red Road (2014-2015), as ex-convictturned-drug baron Phillip Kopus.
As intense as his roles are, 36-year1
old Joseph Jason Namakaeha Momoa is pretty laidback, which he credits to his Hawaiian upbringing, photographer mom Coni and painter dad Joseph. “I grew up with artists, I grew up rock climbing, I grew up with surfing. I’m not a barbarian,” he laughs.
But he certainly had what it took 2
to play one. Jason was picked from over 200 actors to play Conan The Barbarian in 2011’s reboot of the fantasy movie that made Arnold Schwarzenegger famous in 1982.
While he confesses to “detesting 3
weights in the gym”, Jason is very sporty and does yoga, circuit training, swimming, mountain-biking and rugby to stay fit. And you can keep tabs on his pre-work to play superhero Aquaman in 2017 sci-fi movie Justice League on his Instagram page @prideofgypsies, where he also posts videos with him drinking beer and playing guitar.
Beer almost cost him his eyesight 4
in 2008 when he was slashed in the face with a beer bottle in a bar fight. He needed 140 stitches and jokes that “I got called ‘pretty boy’ all my life. Now that’s not my thing anymore”.
One of his “things” is his family 5
– Jason’s been married to actress Lisa Bonet since 2007. The couple have two kids, daughter Lola Iolani Momoa (9) and son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa (7).
