Killing Nkosi

Ayanda and Pastor Nkosi’s feud ends in disgrace, bloodshed and death.

Pastor Nkosi is sick of Ayanda. Mon-Wed SABC1 (*191) 20:30

Gentle churchgoing viewers tuning in to hear the good word in Pastor Nkosi’s (Mondli Makhoba) live TV broadcast on Wednesday 28 September are in for the shock of their lives when he attacks his nemesis Ayanda Mdletshe (Kay Sibiya) in front of the cameras. But it’s Pastor Nkosi’s vanity that leads to death when he falls during his tussle with Ayanda and cracks his head open on a protruding part of that glitzy silver throne of his on Monday 3 October. “Worst of all, it happens in the church, on the church altar, in front of the whole congregation,” reveals Kay.

DEAD & DISHONOURED

But faithful viewers will already be gasping in shock, because Ayanda slaughters Nkosi’s reputation first – with help from the salon squad, GC (Khaya Dladla), Thobile (Nokuthula Mabika) and Smangele (Sihle Ndaba). “Ayanda is smarter this time in compiling the evidence against Pastor Nkosi,” says Kay. “GC assists him in getting bank statements, Nkosi’s company profile Ayanda’s mistimed shove kills the pastor. and details to show that the money being donated is not going into an investment account but into Nkosi’s personal account. He puts everything on the projector with clips of Nkosi doing dubious things while praying for people, saying things while he didn’t know they were recording. Now exposed, Nkosi charges at Ayanda.”

THE XULU CURSE

As much as the two men have hated one another, the death is a tragedy for Ayanda. He is grief-stricken when a drunk in the street praises him for “killing the prophet” on Monday 4 October. “Ayanda believes that he will never be able to lead the church again, that he’s not worthy to be a leader,” explains Kay. “Ayanda has been running away ever since he found out about his heritage as a Xulu. The Xulus are known to be crooked, murderous people without a moral compass or a conscience. Killing Pastor Nkosi scares him because it shows his ‘ true’ identity. He views himself as less of a man… as a murderer.” But luckily for Ayanda, while he abandons the church in his moments of darkness, it won’t abandon him and nor will his real mother Zandile (Leleti Khumalo).
