What can we expect from Mamello? The show is relevant to what’s happening in schools. Any teacher watching may find a piece of themselves in a character. A career in teaching isn’t as easy as people think – it’s more about managing young minds and developing personalities. And what is your role exactly? Mangwena is a representative from the Department Of Education who’s called to the school following an incident and he stays to monitor things. He’s a charming man who always sees positive in the world and encourages pupils to do the same. How did you get into character? The role required a bit of introspection, so I went back to my school years and modelled Mangwena on teachers I liked and who encouraged and motivated me. I had to wrap my head around the idea that teaching is a passion, not about money. So what have you been doing since leaving Generations? I’ve been busy behind the camera at my production company Mutodi Films and we’re currently in production on three drama TV shows. I’m in talks with Mzansi Magic for those shows and I’m still auditioning for roles in front of the camera too. And how do you juggle your day job as a business administrator and acting? I don’t sleep… maybe that’s a good thing [Laughs]. When I start my day, I clear out the distractions and focus on the task at hand. I enjoy getting involved in the whole entertainment industry and getting to know the process.
