Sarah Paulson is best known to fans for her roles in each season of gory anthology series American Horror Show (2011-current). But ahead of season 6 (see more on p63), she’s been playing prosecutor Marcia Clark in biopic series The People vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story (2016) – and the real-life Marcia loves Sarah’s work, calling her portrayal “simply phenomenal!”
Art imitated life in season 2 of 1
American Horror Story (2012). Sarah’s character Lana was committed to an insane asylum for being gay. Sarah is lesbian and since mid-2015 she’s been dating Holland Taylor (Evelyn Harper in sitcom Two & A Half Men, 2003 -2015).
As much as she enjoyed filming 2
The People vs OJ Simpson, Sarah refused to watch raw cuts until the premiere screening, saying, “I felt very connected to her [Marcia]. Seeing that Bronco [OJ’s getaway car] made me physically ill though.”
What the 41-year-old does love is 3
prison dramedy Orange Is The New Black (2013-current). “I watched six episodes in one sitting, got food and came back to watch the rest,” she laughs.
She’s won 10 of the 28 awards that 4
she’s been nominated for, including two Critics’ Choice Awards for American Horror Story (in 2013 and 2015), as well as the Television Critics Association Award for Individual Achievement this year for her role as Marcia.
Sarah always wanted to work as an 5
actress and studied at New York’s famed High School Of Performing Arts and American Academy Of Dramatic Art. And so far, it’s paid off – she got her first role, a cameo on Law & Order (1990-2010), in 1994 and she hasn’t stopped working since.
