Niki’s ready to take her gangster hubby Suffo to the cleaners when she decides to end their marriage.

He may not have murdered her, but Niki (Nolo Phiri) is starting to realise what Suffocate (Mduduzi Mabaso) is doing to her may be a fate worse than death. When even his first wife Puleng’s (Tebogo Khalo) efforts to help her sister-wife fail on Thursday 29 September, Niki knows that Suffo will never forgive her for sleeping with his brother Themba (Sphamandla Dhludhlu) in July when he kicks her out of their townhouse. “She’s devastated by the situation,” says Nolo. Reality sets in and her brother Bash (Siphiwe Mtshali) finds alternative accommodation for them both, but don’t think that this is the end of Niki. Far from it, actually…
DOWN & OUT
On Friday 30 September, Bash asks Kop (Setlabi Taunyane) to let him and Niki move into his back room, but when they arrive on Monday 3 October, Niki isn’t impressed. “She’s always been an ambitious person who’s after stability, which is probably why she stuck around in a polygamous marriage,” says Nolo. “Being reduced to staying in someone’s back room causes her to break down and look for a way out, asking herself, ‘what’s the next step?’”
WHAM, BAM, THANK YOU, MA’AM
After telling new neighbour Reneilwe (Amo Chidi) on Tuesday 4 October that she still loves Suffo despite everything he’s putting her through, Niki goes to see him on Thursday 6 October to show Suffo just how much. “She wants to remind him who he married and what he’s missing out on,” explains Nolo. They end up in bed, but Niki doesn’t get the reaction she’s expecting. “Suffo blames himself for sleeping with the woman who betrayed him and throws her out, calling her a slut for being so easy.” The love she felt for him goes out the window and the battle lines are drawn for Niki.
IT’S OVER!
Unaware that Suffo’s planning to give back their daughter Busi (Thabo Ntshubela), Niki tells Suffo on Friday 7 October that she wants a divorce. “She is upset over his behaviour and punishes him by taking half of all he owns,” says Nolo. But when Niki finds out from Reneilwe on Tuesday 11 October that she’s lost her opportunity to get Busi back, she’s crushed and goes in guns blazing. “Suffo’s gobsmacked and tells her that she’s going to suffer,” Nolo adds. Sounds like a nasty divorce and custody battle is looming…
