Ndu’s two hearts

Gontse and Ndumiso are getting married – but they’re inviting trouble into their happily-ever-after.

A baby and far too many break-ups later, Gontse and Ndumiso (Khanyisile Zwane and Andile Sithole) are getting married on Thursday 20 October and Friday 21 October – despite all that Gontse’s bickering parents Abel and Gloria (Mandla Shongwe and Marjorie Langa) or Ndu’s exfling Phindi (Pretty Ncayiyana) throw in their path. “Gontse’s put her foot down with Gloria and Abel, so they actually behave themselves,” laughs Khanyisile.

IT’S TRADITION

Ndu and Gontse are proud of their res- pective isiZulu and Sesotho heritages, but we won’t get to see their traditional ceremonies for this wedding. “There is a separate ceremony. The wedding party travels to KwaZuluNatal, Ndumiso’s home, to perform the traditional rites. This, however, happens off-screen as the event takes place over a weekend,” explains Bafana Khumalo, Scandal!’s story co- ordinator. “After the ceremony, we see a photo of Gontse in her traditional isiZulu bride dress, the isidwaba. Gloria, who is expecting that as the mother of the bride she’s going to be at the centre of the traditional isiZulu wedding, is deeply offended when she discovers that she has to stay behind and won’t be going to KZN.” The production cost for the wedding was R100 000. But don’t cry, brides – you’d only budget that if you had to pay each of your guests to attend for two days, as well as hiring an entire film crew to follow you around inside a TV studio. Whew! “Always shop around to get best offer and service. Less is sometimes more,” advises line producer Natalie Prinsloo.
