So you’re the new Kuti – how’s that been? It’s nice working with a cast and crew so welcoming. I’ve known Akhumzi Jezile (Kuti’s bestie Ngulube) for a while and Tumie Ngumla (Kuti’s wife Princess) and I have been bonding really well. How do you make the character different? I didn’t watch any of Sdumo’s scenes while preparing because I wanted to showcase what I can do and my interpretation of the character. I’m hoping viewers will get to see a different side of Kuti through my portrayal. And how is Kuti different from your other roles? For once, I get to play the jerk [Laughs]. I’ve never done that before and I’ve always wanted to. The more, I play Kuti, the more I realise what a jerk he really is. Describe his journey this season. He goes through a transformation. He has to start from the bottom. He has nothing and tries to build something with the help of Princess and his friends. Hustling his way out of poverty hits him hard. The roles are rolling in, so are you planning on acting full-time? I started out acting and went into presenting for the next six years. I prefer doing a bit of both because I get to showcase different versions of myself and that adds a little spice to my life.
