Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.

-

Season 1 e.tv (*194) 20:30 Sci-fi Brett Dalton’s got a five-year gap on his acting CV between 2007 and 2012 where he did pretty much nothing. But that changed in November 2012 when he was cast as one of TV’s newest heroes: Agent Grant Ward in superhero action series Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013-current).

He only ever wanted to act. While 1

studying drama at the University Of California in 2009, Brett was cast in the stage play of Jack Nicholson’s iconic 1975 movie One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and in 2011 he earned his Masters degree in Fine Arts at Yale.

Of his co-stars, Brett says that he 2

“loves Coulson (Clark Gregg) the most. The reason we have this show is because fans loved Coulson so much [in the Marvel movies, 2008-current]. Clark is a really good guy”.

He hasn’t always been a chiselled 3

hottie though. Before beefing up with yoga, cardio and gymming, Brett admits to wearing sweater vests and glasses. “I was far from cool,” he says.

He loves his broody role, saying, “I 4

thought of Ward as this sort of boy scout, the guy who knows all the stuff, but just doesn’t get along with people.” Not that Brett has that issue – he’s quite the people person and went to clown camp during his high school years. The only thing he can’t do “is ride a unicycle and juggle. It’s not my thing,” he laughs.

Brett’s also a doting dad, having 5

married movie costume designer Melissa Trn in 2015 after six years of dating. They have a four-year-old daughter named Sylvia.

So what’s the best part of work6

ing on a Marvel series? Brett grins and says, “Getting red-carpet première invites to the Marvel movies. Man, that stuff is great!”
