Goodbye my lover

Bongi makes it to the altar but there’s no happy ending in sight.

Bongi comforts her injured groom Doc. Weekdays e.tv (*194) 19:00

When Doc (Dumisani Mbebe) lies to his ex-fiancée Lerato (Samkelo Ndlovu) about leaving his current fiancée and ex-wife Bongi (Thembi Seete) on Thursday 27 October, he digs his own grave – literally. When Lerato discovers that she was lied to on Friday 28 October, she kickstarts a series of fatal events for her lover.

IN LIMBO

Lerato’s devious side takes over on Monday 31 October when Doc makes it clear that he’s not leaving Bongi. Her plan? To reveal Doc’s illness that he has been hiding from Bongi – and it’s not something that she will want to hear. “Bongi has noticed changes in Doc’s behaviour that have made her fearful and uncomfortable around him,” says Thembi. But even Lerato is left stunned when she gets the diagnosis from Doc’s doctor on Tuesday 1 November.

MEET MY DEMANDS OR ELSE!

Armed with Doc’s medical records on Thursday 3 November, Lerato tries to blackmail him. Doc isn’t up for games despite her threats to make news of his brain lesion public, which would show that he’s unfit to run Red Records and force him to hand it over to her. She is also holding their recent hook-up over his head, but Doc’s ready to come clean to Bongi about both matters later on Thursday 3 November. “Doc’s medical condition helps Bongi rationalise his behaviour, but the cheating is unforgiveable,” explains Thembi.

LOVE & WAR

Lerato is out to make Doc pay. Doc knows he doesn’t have much time left and he tells Bongi that if they get married, she’ll get Red and it would be safe from Lerato. Despite reservations on Tuesday 8 November, Bongi stands before the minister with Doc, ready to marry – but Thembi makes it clear that for Bongi, it’s now “a business arrangement to protect his legacy”. Doc realises that he’s forgotten the rings and goes home to get them, but when he doesn’t come back, Bongi worries and goes to find him “as Doc’s condition makes him erratic,” Thembi says. But when she finds him on later on 8 November, Doc has his hands on Lerato’s throat and “as Bongi tries to separate them,” says Thembi, “Doc hits his head and falls down.” Uh-oh…
