Be my babymamma

Maya has given Nicole everything, now all that she’s asking for is a tiny baby favour…

Rick and Maya are ready to start their family… Weekdays SABC3 (*193) 18:00

Maya Forrester (Karla Mosley) is feeling broody, but when her delighted husband Rick (Jacob Young) reveals that he’s already looking into adoption on Wednesday 2 November, she reveals that she has something else in mind – a baby with the Forrester-Avant bloodline. And before anyone has a chance to breathe, Maya “pops the question” to the woman she wants to be her kids’ biological mother: her younger sister Nicole (Reign Edwards). Woah there, lady! Borrowing your sister’s reproductive system is a little more serious than just dropping by for a dress and some shoes.

KID vs CAREER

Nicole started modelling at Forrester just a few months back after dropping out of college and she’s only just getting her foot in the door in LA’s supercompetitive fashion industry. “If I was faced with this pressure, I’d be going crazy,” admits Reign. “Nicole has just the dating pool too – she’s actually still a virgin. And she’s in a brand-new relationship with her sweetheart Zende Forrester (Rome Flynn). “On one hand, she’s thinking, ‘If Zende loves me, he should wait’. But she’s also worried about the reality of the situation. She can’t help but wonder, ‘How will this guy feel watching me carry another man’s child?’” explains Reign. Maya is asking Nicole to put everything on the line – to risk what being pregnant will do to her body, what taking a time-out will do to her career and how the pregnancy will affect her physical relationship with Zende. But it’s not just Nicole who’s taking a risk…

COULD SHE GIVE UP THE BABY?

Nicole’s issues aside, Maya would be taking a huge risk too, because Nicole might not have the emotional maturity to give that baby to her sister once she’s carried it around for nine months. And “unlike other surrogates who deliver the baby and walk away, Nicole will be living in the same house with Maya, Rick and the baby. This is a lot to lay on someone as young and vulnerable as Nicole,” Reign points out. “It’s a really big thing to do and it also depends where you’re at in your life. Right now, I feel like I’m the type of person who would get really attached.” On Monday 7 November, Rick’s mom Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) gently tries to make Nicole see what it would mean to have to give up her baby. And Maya’s fertility specialist Dr March (Kate Orsini) gives her the same sort of warning on Tuesday 8 November.
