Who knew that a simple card game could lead to so much drama – and hilarity? But that’s exactly what’s happening with Matrone (Annelize van der Ryst-Hattingh) and Diederik (Hennie Jacobs) when they enter a bridge competition. There’s just one problem: the rules say that only the fairer sex may play, so Matrone comes up with a plan and on Thursday 10 November, she introduces her bridge partner to Charmaine ( Vinette Ebrahim): her cousin Henriëtta aka Diedie in drag!
LIES & LIPSTICK
On Friday 11 November, Diederik thinks on his feet when his Bruynwaves boss Vanessa (Ingrid Paulus) questions him about the lipstick she saw on his collar on Monday 7 November. The mark is from his time as Henriëtta, Hennie explains. “To get Vanessa off his back, he says that it’s his girlfriend Henriëtta’s.” But that lie is going to get him into trouble because Willem (Markus Haywood) is suspicious of Diederik and his so- called girlfriend. Smelling a rat, Willem arrives unexpectedly at Matrone’s house on Thursday 17 November, where Oubaas (Pierre van Pletzen), Hilda (Annelisa Weiland) and Henriëtta are playing bridge.
“Diederik is nervous but he keeps his cool,” Hennie says, adding that Willem’s too smart to be fooled by the disguise and recognises Henriëtta as Diederik. The next day, on Friday 18 November, Willem confronts Diederik, who confesses that he’s faking being Henriëtta only as a favour to Matrone. Willem is amused but agrees to keep Diederik’s secret.
Later that evening, Willem arrives at Bruynwaves with size 10 high heels and helps Diederik to walk more like a woman. “Where Willem got the heels from is actually the elephant in the room, but Diederik decides to remain quiet about it for now,” Hennie laughs.
By Monday 21 November, he’s grown tired of playing Henriëtta but when he tries to pull out of the competition, Matrone blackmails him. “She says that she has photos of him as Henriëtta and will send them to the papers if he lets her down now,” Hennie reveals.
Actor Hennie Jacobs goes from all-man Diederik to fairer-sex Henriëtta.
