Skeem Saam

-

Making money has always been at the top of Charles Kunutu’s (Masilo Magoro) list on Skeem Saam (2011-current), so he jumped when the chance to make quick cash presented itself on Thursday 3 November. But Charles soon realises that he’s caught in the crosshairs of a loanshark and the law…

How does Charles come up with his loanshark idea? His friend Wallet (Molefi Monaisa) doesn’t repay his loan from Charles as promised. So Charles figures that he should add interest to the debt and he realises that he could actually make a living out of this [business]. What makes him think it’ll work? Charles has always been a chancer. Whatever he can do to make money, he’ll do it. From hiking up food prices to having pool tournaments, there’s nothing he isn’t willing to try if he believes that it will help build the Kunutu empire. So how does Charles’s new business land him in trouble on Friday 11 November? People complain to Captain Malebana (Arthur Molepo), especially since Charles is an illegal money lender. And he’s in danger on Tuesday 15 November… Turfloop’s most dangerous loanshark Dragon (Julius Mosana) finds out about Charles’s business. Dragon was introduced in season 1 after Tbose and Kwaito (Cornet Mamabolo and Clement Maosa) tried to borrow money to pay for John Maputla’s (Africa Tsoai) bakkie that had been in an accident. Dragon warns Charles to shut down his business and stop stealing his customers. And what happens to Wallet and his debt? Charles goes out to look for Wallet [on Tuesday 22 November] because he has been avoiding Charles. He sends Wallet messages via other people and when that fails, Charles goes to Turfloop himself. NB! See more on p18.
