Sonti Magongwa (Pearl Maimela) is the complete opposite of her little sister Mapitsi (Mogau Mothlatswi). Sonti runs her own distribution business, she has her own flat and she doesn’t have babydaddy drama, unlike her matriculant sister who fell pregnant at 16 and is busy struggling to juggle a baby and her matric studies. Something’s always been missing from Sonti’s life though – and now it looks like she may have just found it: a man!
ARMED & DANGEROUS
It was a case of third-time lucky for Sonti when handsome young police officer Babeile (Matthews Manamela) gave her a lift home on Tuesday 8 November. “They’ve had a couple of encounters when she and Mapitsi had beaten up Tbose (Cornet Mamabolo) during a fight in her house in April last year and when Wallet (Molefi Monaisa) accused Mapitsi and Sonti of stealing his coin in November 2015, says Pearl. “After Babeile gave her a lift home, she looked at him in a different light. Because during the other times, she had been in trouble with the law, I don’t think she was particularly fazed by him.”
MORE THAN FRIENDS
After a few days of sending SMSes to her new friend, which go unanswered, Sonti gets a friend request from Babeile on social media on Thursday 10 November. “She’s thrilled and looking forward to the lunch date they plan,” Pearl explains. “The fact that Sonti has never been on a date with a guy is enough to get her counting down the minutes until she sees him again. She’s impressed and only has nice things to say about him. Sonti’s excited, as is her sister.” And while Sonti’s never even kissed a guy, on Monday 14 November she’s already considering Babeile as her first boyfriend.
PRINCE CHARMING
Sonti is hooked on Babeile after their first date on Thursday 17 November and it’s not just because he’s a man in uniform, Pearl explains. “In her eyes, he was just another policeman doing his job. I think she loves the fact that he’s very gentle and the feeling that he will always protect her no matter what. She feels safe around him and just enchanted by the fact that he’s a respected community member who knows how to treat women well.”
So could Sonti’s first relationship be her happily-ever-after? It seems like the rollercoaster has just begun when Sonti and her heartthrob start seeing more of each other. “He becomes a regular at her flat, much to Mapitsi’s occasional annoyance and excitement,” explains Pearl. “Sonti isn’t thinking that far ahead, but she does enjoy his company and always looks forward to spending time with him.”
