Dad’s the devil
Angie’s father brings a scandalous secret to Horizon Deep.
Lawyer Angelique (Shannon Esra) is stunned on Tuesday 22 November when her e dad Conrad (Deon Coetzee) arrives in The Deep. He’s there for his drug-smuggling convict granddaughter Daniella’s (Shamilla Miller) press conference and wherever Conrad is, trouble is sure to follow. But is Angie prepared for it?
CONRAD THE CON
“Conrad and Angie have a complex relationship,” Shannon explains. “He’s always been involved in ‘new business ventures’ and most turned out to be scams and when Conrad was in trouble, Angie tried to help but it strained their father- daughter relationship. At this point, Angie is frustrated when she sees Conrad.” Demanding to know his intentions, Angie confronts her father on Wednesday 23 November but she’s given a feeble “I’m here to support my granddaughter” excuse. Not convinced, Angie starts digging and it’s not long before she gets her answer…
THE TRUTH HURTS
Conrad confesses on Thursday 24 November that he gave Daniella the drug package to take through the airport in October 2016. “Angie’s devastated to hear this and feels hurt,” says Shannon. “Conrad has compromised her situation and the first thing Angie thinks is ‘how can she mend the mess Daniella is in?’” While Conrad tries to clean up his act on Friday 25 November by staying on the sidelines and supporting his daughter and granddaughter, Angie is prepping for Daniella’s last shot at bail. “There’s tons of pressure on Angie to get Daniella out of jail because she sees Daniella as her own child. Angie’s also struggling with her emotions towards Conrad,” Shannon reveals.
FRIENDS & FOES
Overwhelmed, Angie searches for a shoulder to cry on on Friday 2 December – and she finds it in Horizon Deep crimeboss Nina Zamdela (Khabonina Qubeka). Shannon explains that “Nina understands Angie’s situation and she sympathises. She helps Angie figure out this challenging time and how to avoid future bad choices, like helping Conrad out of his problems”. One bad choice Angie can’t seem to avoid is journalist Calvin (Maurice Paige), who wants to know on Tuesday 6 December why she is suddenly so close to the Zamdelas. And Angie keeping quiet only pushes him to dig more into Daniella’s story…
