Season 3 Universal (*117) 20:00 Sci-fi

Magic’s back on the box tonight with the start of the 10-episode third season of The Librarians (2014-current). The last time we saw our team of heroes, led by “The Librarian” Flynn (Noah Wyle), was back in December 2015 – they went back in time to save famed playwright William Shakespeare (David Ury), who’d been possessed by Prospero (Richard Cox), a character that William created for his play The Tempest in 1611.

The show has kept info on season 3 locked away tighter than one of the mythical artefacts stored in The Library, but series director Dean Devlin hinted that “season 3 will be a bit scarier, with higher stakes to put pressure on the characters and how they handle situations”. “Scarier” includes new enemies, like General Cynthia Rockwell, the leader of a secret government agency that wants the secrets stored in The Library – Cynthia is played by Vanessa Williams (Wilhelmina Slater in comedy Ugly Betty, 2006-2010). There’s also a touch of mysticism when the team battle the Egyptian God Of Chaos and werewoles, but rumour has it one team member won’t survive this season…

One plus is that Flynn is back for most of the season. He went “away on Librarian business” in episode 2 of season 2 and returned right at the end – in reality, Noah went on a hiatus from the show, doubting his abilities. He’s back and actor Noah has signed on to appear in seven episodes in season 3, as well as directing two episodes and writing one. Two guest roles that we do know about this season are Kirby Goulding (Sean Astin, Samwise in The Lord Of The Rings fantasy movies, 2001-2003), a magician in a mysterious travelling circus who returns to find his playground crush Charlotte, played by Felicia Day (Holly in sci-fi series Eureka, 2006-2012).
