Ronen Rubinstein caught the attention of audiences as handsome Nathan in episode 10 of drama series Orange Is The New Black’s (2013-current) third season. And he caught casting agents’ eyes too – he was quickly snapped up as Alex Powell in the recently cancelled horror series Dead Of Summer (2016).

Seems the 22-year-old has a thing 1

for the horror genre. He also starred in supernatural slasher movie Some Kind Of Hate (2015) and in the horror movie Condemned (2015).

Alex – aka Alexi Fayvinov – Ronen is Russian. His family left the Soviet in 2001 and settled in the US.

But the move wasn’t easy – Ronen 3

says that “I definitely felt like an outsider because Russian was my first language… and I was a bit of a bad boy growing up, if you want to call it that”.

But while he plays mean-guy Alex, 4

he’s a nice guy in real life and feels strongly about bullying in schools. “It’s so sad – I knew a girl who was bullied and she committed suicide,” he explains.

Don’t think that because he’s an 5

actor that Ronen wants to be in big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. Instead, he prefers smaller roles in indie movies and in 2013 he wrote, directed and starred in his own short movie titled Something In The Way.

He loves music but Ronen doesn’t 6

go mainstream there either – he plays bongo drums and the ukulele.

Ronen doesn’t like revealing too 7

much about his personal life, but he does love his fans – “They’re super affectionate and there have been one or two confessions of love and a couple of marriage proposals too. The people are really very nice and I love it and them,” the actor laughs.
