Secret lovers: Jill’s trap for Zakes
Ex-con Zakes wants his drug empire back… and his girl Jill.
“He wants to settle old scores. Scores with his family, ‘professional’ scores and personal scores,” says Lehasa Moloi of Zakes Moloi’s return to town. But since being released from prison on Wednesday 2 November, Reverend Moloi’s (Owen Sejake) son has had anything but an easy ride. He was hauled in by the cops for questioning a day after his release, on Thursday 3 November. Then he was dumped on Tuesday 15 November by his on-off expartner Jill (Sche-laine Bennett) who’s now a cop, and he’s got his hands full trying to take down current crime kingpin Titus (Daniel Hadebe) without Titus realising. But first things first – he wants to sort things out with Jill…
SMOOTH OPERATOR
“They’re not on bad terms; they’re just on the opposite sides of the law now,” says Lehasa. Back in the day, Zakes and Jill were literally partners in crime in the drug trade, but then Zakes was arrested and sent to prison for both of them. “Jill has always kept an eye on Zakes even though she isn’t part of that world anymore,” the actor says. “They have what I would like to call ‘an interesting past’ and while he wants to rekindle that, Jill isn’t so sure.” But that’s exactly what she’s going to do… except it’s all a lie. Fellow cop Gavin (Tom Fairfoot) has a plan to catch Zakes and he’s going to use the ex- con’s love for Jill to get it done – he suggests on Monday 28 November that Jill goes undercover and become Zakes’s lover to get evidence that he’s back in illegal business. “He and Jill have unresolved issues, business-wise and emotionally,” Lehasa says, hinting that Zakes won’t suspect a thing when Jill warms up to his advances on Monday 28 November.
WHAT A GIRL WANTS
Jill isn’t sold completely by Gavin’s plan on Wednesday 30 November but she goes ahead with the undercover work anyway, Lehasa explains. “She has needs and wants. She has a ‘ type’ – Zakes – and she’s never had that intimate relationship. There is a hole in her life and Zakes knows this, so he will go along with it.” By Monday 5 December, the pair of ex- criminals are all loved up and Zakes can’t keep his hands off Jill, giving her shoulder massages at every chance. But this willingness to be close to him after their nasty split has Zakes questioning just how trustworthy Jill is…
