Human rights lawyer Angelique (Shannon Esra) and political activist Tyson (Shona Ferguson) have had the hots for each other since Tyson arrived in The Deep in June 2016. Until now, Tyson’s been busy trying to solve his sister Katlego’s (Kgomotso Christopher) April 2016 murder. With that solved, Angie’s back on his radar.

When Tyson left in July 2016, Angie thought that her chances of being with a tough yet sensible man had gone. But his reappearance in late October 2016 brought back those feelings. “Angie has a genuine attraction to Tyson, but he’s like this forbidden fruit,” explains Shannon, adding that her character’s heart sank in November when Tyson’s wife Kgothalo (Katlego Danke) showed up too. “He’s married and Angie won’t come between them,” says Shannon. But Angie’s mindset changes on Friday 9 December when she spots Tyson at a humanitarian function. “They’re in a good mood because the cause they’ve been fighting for has worked out,” says Shannon. “Angie’s tipsy and so is Tyson, which hampers their judgement when they shuffle to a corner for a kiss.” In that moment, Angie is happy because she’s got the man she wanted, regardless of who’s at home warming his bed.

Drunk Angie liked the kiss but sober Angie feels guilty and “by Monday 12 December, she knows that what she did isn’t right,” says Shannon. “Angie can’t help feeling vulnerable whenever she is around Tyson. That complicates matters.” Tyson doesn’t want to anger his volatile wife and ruin their businesstype relationship so he keeps his lips sealed about his Angie indiscretion. Shannon also teases that “Tyson and Angie keep their kiss a secret. It turns into an affair eventually, but I’m not going to say anymore right now”.

While Tyson’s off kissing Angie, his wife Kgothalo is facing her demons and a past fling in The Deep. Secrets are slowly revealing themselves and by Monday 19 December, Tyson is suspicious when Kgothalo isn’t her usual assertive self during a meeting with Barker and Rajesh (Robert Whitehead and Jack Devnarain)… Lincoln’s in jail and Eddie tries to force a confession from him. Meanwhile, Nikiwe is devastated by her father’s arrest, and Calvin struggles to accept what happened to his lover Katlego after he learns that Lincoln killed her. Kamo faints at the shebeen and later tells Nina that Obakeng got her pregnant. Angie and Tyson end up kissing at an event, and Lerato and Sechaba clash over charity work for the community.

Nina does her best to talk Kamo into having an abortion but she’s worried that Kamo isn’t listening. Meanwhile, Lerato takes in singlemother Thulile and her kids and gives them a place to stay as part of her charity work for the community. Lerato starts realising how difficult it is living in a house with her new house-guests and she takes out her frustrations on Sechaba. Barker makes Tyson an offer that could spell the end for Sibeko Gold, and Lerato launches a popup salon at the church. Tyson sees an opportunity working with Barker but he doesn’t trust the head of Haines International. Nikiwe struggles to keep things afloat at Sibeko Gold as business drops with Lincoln behind bars, and Sechaba is pleased with the profits from the salon. NB! See more on p45.
