Generally in Salem, it’s polite to wait until the wedding day to shoot the groom. Distraught widow Marge Bernardi (Elizabeth Roberts) is jumping the gun when she opens fire at EJ and Sami’s (James Scott and Alison Sweeney) engagement party on Tuesday 13 December. We’re giving her a pass though – everyone knows that Sami killed Marge’s husband Joe (Anthony Tyler Quinn) to stop him from slicing off his partner Rafe’s (Galen Gering) goodies on behalf of Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo). But those gunshots are leading to more trouble than blood for the DiMeras…
On Wednesday 14 December, Marge blows a hole in Chad DiMera’s (Casey Deidrick) chest – and his brain tumour story. When Cameron (Schuyler Yancey) wants to warn Daniel (Shawn Christian) about the medications that Chad’s supposedly on before he operates, EJ is forced to admit to Cameron that his brother isn’t medicated: Chad’s been lying about the tumour to make Abby (Kate Mansi) feel sorry for him so that she’d date Chad, not Cameron. And as Chad lies on the operating table, his dad Stefano sneaks off to the hospital chapel on Wednesday 14 December to bargain with God. “If you will spare my son’s life, I promise to make up for what I’ve done. I will try to be a better man,” he vows. Stefano DiMera on the side of the angels? Good luck with that!
On Tuesday 20 December, Sami’s dad Roman (Josh Taylor) warns her: “EJ does what Daddy tells him to do. Think long and hard about what you’re doing. Is this really the life you want?” And she later admits to EJ, “I spent all night last night wondering what I would have said to our kids if something had happened to you. We are living in his house with our children and he [Stefano] is in charge! Do you not understand what is at stake here for me and our children once we marry?” But when EJ suggests that they postpone the wedding, Sami retorts, “Postpone? How about cancel?” Now there’s a shot to the heart! It looks like Marge Bernardi’s aim wasn’t so bad after all. Gabi tries to let Nick down gently, and JJ confronts Kayla about Jack raping her and he’s arrested after he goes on a rampage at the shop where Jack’s book is on display. Nicole later saves the day when Kristen sends a “mugger” to steal her flashdrive from Marlena.
Kristen’s “mugger” claims that he threw her flashdrive in the river, while Eric’s suspicions turn on Nicole as he investigates who was at the hotel the night of his memory loss. Marlena throws an engagement party for Sami and EJ but Marge upstages everyone’s drama when she crashes the event and opens fire, shooting Chad. EJ is forced to admit to Cameron that Chad doesn’t have a brain tumour, and Stefano promises God that he’ll put evil behind him if Chad survives. Later, Theresa starts her plot to make Jennifer think that Daniel is having an affair with her and then breaks into his flat. The judge sends JJ to live with Jennifer, and Eric realises that his hotel sex dreams are actually suppressed memories. Sami suggests to EJ that they cancel their wedding, and Chad is forced to tell Abby why he lied about the tumour after she overhears him talking to Cameron.
