Rude & crude
The only people that Billy and Julie tolerate in Difficult People are themselves.
Difficult People Season 1 Fridays (from 9 December) M-Net Edge (*102) 19:00 & 19:30
Life sucks for 30-something New York stand-up comics Julie and her gay bestie Billy (Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner) in comedy show Difficult People (2015- current). Their friends are all making money, are in committed relationships and seem to be winning at life. But for these two, they’re taking the easy road to become famous and it’s just not working out – their stand-up careers are in tatters and they’re scraping the barrel when it comes to making money, like…
In episode 5 (23 December), Billy tries to use his job working as a waiter at the local coffee shop to his and Julie’s advantage. Billy’s laidback boss and friend Nate (Derrick Baskin) is going out of town for a mini holiday with his wife Denise (Gabourey Sidibe), leaving Billy in charge of the eatery and the rest of the staff. Spotting an opportunity to make some fast money, Julie and Billy sneakily launch kiddies’ meals… at prices that customers would pay for adult-sized meals. Looking for a one-night stand in episode 7 (30 December), Billy meets Fred the dentist (John Benjamin Hickey) at the dog park, unaware that Fred is part of a crime ring stealing money from people at the park. It’s almost Christmas in episode 8 (30 December) and Billy’s ready to help his niece Tal (Dahlia White) with her to-do list, but his “helpfulness” comes at a price: he’s there for her if she gives his audition tape to superproducer Ryan Murphy, the creator of American Horror Story (2011-current). Thing is, Billy is actually meant to be at a gig with Julie that could help with both of their careers… The 10-episode second season was released by video-on-demand service Hulu in the US between July and September 2016 and the show was renewed in October for a 10episode third season.
Billy and Julie will do anything to avoid hard work to become famous.
