Diva superstar Mariah Carey is tackling reality TV with her new show Mariah’s World.

At 46, Mariah Carey has done just about everything in showbiz: she’s sold out tours, she’s got tons of #1 hit songs and she has a net worth estimated at $520 million (R7.5 billion). What she didn’t have until this year was her own TV show. Cue Mariah’s World (2016- current), the eight- epi-sode reality series that lifts the lid on Mariah’s daily routine, what she’s like as a mom to five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, and just how much of a diva the infamous singing superstar really is.
“I don’t think anyone knows anything about me,” Mariah said when her show was announced in August 2016. “It’s my life and I thought, why not document this now? It’s a docu-series because it feels like a documentary. I don’t watch reality television. I don’t know what reality is.” If the trailer is anything to go by, this is going to be one wild ride! Mariah is seen being helped off a private plane at night wearing sunglasses, a sequin gown and clutching her all-important glass of red wine. Her “to- camera” mini interviews (when the person talks to the viewers directly) are conducted on a couch with Mariah wearing a black corset and stockings. There’s also behind-the-scenes footage from her March-November Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour, including Mariah’s 2016 stop- off right here in SA, as well as other countries including Mexico and Norway. “I hadn’t been on tour in like 10 years, so it was the perfect time to tour and also tape my show,” says Mariah. And just when we were looking forward to “white tigers and albino elephants”, don’t expect to see too much of Mariah’s planned wedding to Aussie media mogul billionaire exfiancé James Packer. They called it quits in November when James got annoyed with Mariah’s wild spending on his account and she recently said that “it’s difficult to say how much of anything from that will be in [the show]”.
