If Yvonne Thebe (Kgomotso Christopher) isn’t breaking the internet as a love triangle temptress, she’s flirting with dangerous men. But when the Newtonian Hotel manager Timothy (Charlie Bouguenon) teasingly hints that she should marry one of those suitors she’s stringing along so publicly, he has no idea how much trouble he’s going to cause. Yvonne takes his comment to heart. Marriage? But of course! “It’s best if she starts reinvesting and diversifying,” jokes Kgomotso. “I think Yvonne will do anything for money, to get a financial backer who’s secure and safe. She starts looking at her options…”

BACKING A WINNER

partner in crime Neo (Jerry Mofokeng) assigned her to lure in Damon so that they could suck him dry, but really, why would Yvonne want to be the middle man in that scenario? “I think she’s looking for the best investment possibility for her and that’s Damon,” says Kgomotso. “Between Damon and Neo – or Moscow – she figures that it’s a businessman with real money versus a gambler who could just turn on her, so Damon might be better for her future financial prospects.” And Damon might offer something that Neo can’t. “I think viewers will see that they do connect in some way that is quite different to the way that she connects with Neo,” hints Kgomotso. And just look at who’s rich, single and right on Yvonne’s plate – it’s Damon Bradbury (Craig Urbani). Yvonne’s

A DECENT PROPOSAL

Damon plays right into Yvonne’s hands on Wednesday 18 January. He is, let’s say concerned, about his charming new friend’s connection to an obvious gangster like Neo. “Yvonne argues that it is a purely financial thing. She says, ‘If you’re not happy that I still talk to Neo and Neo still pays for my hotel room, well then I don’t know what do!’” Kgomotso laughs. “She plays the damsel in distress. ‘Let’s make me financially independent of Neo,’ Yvonne suggests, ‘But then someone’s got to step in. Geez, I wonder who?’”

But marriage wouldn’t just be about Yvonne scoring. “There are a couple of things that happen in terms of Damon that are unrelated to Neo that put him in the spotlight in a negative way,” hints Kgomotso. “So Yvonne spins the marriage: ‘We will have this amazing society wedding. Everyone will forget about the bad publicity because it’s going to be the wedding of the year!’”

STAKING A CLAIM

Damon’s reaction immediately sets Yvonne aflutter. “She just cancels out the reality that she proposed to him and that it’s an arrangement,” reveals Kgomotso. “She goes into her dream of forever after.” And while Yvonne’s eyes are filled with stars, Damon’s are filled with glee as he – not at all subtly – lets his rivals Siseko Langa (Hlomla Dandala) and Neo Mokheti know that the future Mrs Bradbury is out of bounds. “There is some marking off of territory on the side of Damon,” says Kgomotso.

TWO ANGRY EXES

Siseko and Neo’s thwarted and outspoken fury as the week of Monday 23 January begins are early wedding gifts that Yvonne will cherish. “She’s excited that Neo’s so affected because that means he has some sort of feeling towards her. And that’s power,” says Kgomotso. “Siseko also has a reaction that tells her that she means something in his life. That’s power, power, power, potential and possibilities.” But in her excitement, Yvonne overlooks Neo’s warning, unaware that he has already taken lethal steps to thwart her that will play out in the week to come. And Siseko also comes across facts that could blow Yvonne’s dream wedding sky high. He might not be as underhanded in removing his rival as Neo is setting out to be, but perhaps that’s because Yvonne hasn’t pushed him hard enough just yet…
