The fourth and final season of drama Masters Of Sex (2013-2016) slipped into the schedule on 12 January and saw Dr Bill Masters (Michael Sheen) and his research assistant Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) go their separate ways after their season 3 fallout in December 2015. How will their sex-periments and research go now that the sexperts have split? “We’re moving to the end of the ’60s, into the ’70s,” says Michael, “so we’ll see Bill and Virginia in situations like swinger parties and nudist colonies. The world is changing around them, partly because of them and they are having to interact in that.” Here are five highlights to look forward to in the 10-episode final season:

1 In episode 2, Bill and Virginia put their problems aside and turn to new partners Dr Nancy and Art (Betty Gilpin and Jeremy Strong) to help focus on their clinic. But by episode 3 (26 January), they’re second-guessing the partners who may be hiding something…

2 Episode 5 (9 February) sees Virginia consider reuniting with Bill for the clinic’s sake but he pulls away in episode 6 (16 February), more so after his estranged wife Libby (Caitlin FitzGerald) confesses to her affairs.

3 Bill throws himself into work in episode 7 (23 February), planning to groom Art for a new area of research. Nancy heckles them and her motives for working at the clinic are revealed.

4 An opposition clinic’s research forces Bill and Virginia to be up close and personal again in episode 8 (20 March), posing as a couple.

5 And by the series finale episode 10 (16 March), the clinic is in trouble but Virginia’s mind is on wedding planning with Bill…
