Love poison

David Genaro turns to supernatural powers to get what he wants most: his feisty lawyer Flavia.

-

Women are usually drawn to shady businessman David Genaro (Jamie Bartlett) like moths to a flame. He has money. He’s a charming bad boy. And David can talk his way in and out of any business deal. Except his bag of tricks aren’t working on his sexy lawyer Flavia (Gabriella Cirillo). He’s into her but she’s not buying it, which forces David to sink to new lows (even for him) on Thursday 2 February when he tries to season her food with muti from his sangoma Sgegede (Mthandeni Mvelase). That doesn’t work and David is told to hide a bag of eggs under her bed… and it seems to have worked when Flavia’s suddenly into David on Friday 3 February.

TWO CAN PLAY THE GAME

The problem with this love scheme is that Flavia finds out about David’s mystical helping hand – she discovers the bag on Monday 6 February and suspects that someone’s bewitching her. Later that day, she asks Sgegede about the eggs and he admits that he’s helped David and while Flavia doesn’t believe in black magic, Gabriella says that her character is willing to try it for her own gain. “It’s all about the power,” says Gabriella. “Flavia turns the tables and she gets Sgegede to bewitch David, to blind him to her real motives for supposedly falling for him.”

Sgegede told David on Tuesday 31 January that David’s in business with an untrustworthy woman and Gabriella explains that “at first, David thinks it’s his other business associate Niki (Nolo Phiri) who Sgegede is talking about. But Niki has always been loyal to him, so it must be Flavia. But it’s too late for him to do anything [by Thursday 9 February] because Flavia’s muti is working on the gangster”.

The pair cosy up at David’s place on Friday 10 February and Gabriella says that “we see an emotional and softer side to stone-walled Flavia. She is genuine and strong when it comes to her relationship with David, but how her walls come down”. At the same time, Flavia is seducing him for her own gain – she wants to take control of the meat-smuggling business that David got her involved with in November 2016. Poor David has no idea what she’s up to. “Little does he know that Flavia is playing the game. Everything that she’s been planning will unravel as the story unfolds,” teases Gabriella.

THE OTHER MAN

Something else that the casanova isn’t aware of is that Flavia is by no means single. The lawyer and her mafia husband Roberto (Jose Domingo) have been pretending to be business partners in front of David, so he doesn’t think anything of Roberto hanging around. But now that things are hotting up between his wife and David, Roberto is anything but pleased and he wants David out the way, which may ruin Flavia’s scheme, hints Gabriella. “Roberto feels threatened and wants what’s his – his wife,” she explains.
