Gone but not forgotten

Mabuyi struggles to cope with the loss of her child.

-

Mabuyi (Samukele Mkhize) faced a terrible tragedy on Monday 16 January when she lost her unborn baby. It was after a shootout at the Ndlovus’ residence that Mabuyi learnt she couldn’t carry the baby to full term. As Samukele says, “Mabuyi had an abortion a while ago and she was worried that the abortion would have affected her current pregnancy. All she had hoped for was that she would be able to carry the baby to term and now she knows it was wishful thinking…” Mabuyi must come to terms with the loss of her unborn child as we see on Tuesday 7 February, and viewers will soon find out that it’s an exceptionally difficult process.

PAINFUL TIMES

Mabuyi goes into mourning for her lost child and Samukele explains that “she isn’t going all black but she is covering her head and shoulders and that symbolises respect for both the passing of the baby and her in-laws”. While Mabuyi is in mourning, she is also devastated that her baby’s father Sbu (Sdumo Mtshali) isn’t grieving the death of their child on Monday 13 February. “She’s hurt, she’s unhappy and most of all she’s disturbed that Sbu isn’t showing any remorse,” says Samukele. Things between Sbu and Mabuyi aren’t going too well and the cracks are showing as Samukele reveals. “Sbu isn’t there to support Mabuyi emotionally or physically. He’s pre-occupied and Mabuyi isn’t able to turn to him anymore.” Samson has been on hand to help Mabuyi in the past.

FRUSTRATION

Samukele adds that “Mabuyi is always a victim of circumstance. She isn’t a bad person but she does makes bad decisions. With that said, the attack at the Ndlovu residence was a factor in her losing her child but she isn’t angry at her father-in-law Samson (Bheki Mkhwane), who’d had an argument with Judas (Menzi Ngubane) prior to the shootout.” Mabuyi sees Samson as a good and respectful man and she is fond of him, especially because he was there for her during her fights with Sbu and his ex-wife Thandeka (Nomzamo Mbatha) during December 2016. But Mabuyi’s troubles with Sbu are far from over as she grows increasingly frustrated with him on Tuesday 14 February. “Mabuyi is a forgiving person but there will be a showdown of some sorts between the couple that may or may not jeopardise their relationship,” hints Samukele.
