The Voice SA
Season 2 M-Net (*101) 17:30 Reality
Season 2 of reality show The Voice SA (2016-current) is going to be bigger and better. “Season 1 had 18 episodes and there’ll be 22 episodes now,” says Ingrid Engelbrecht, M-Net’s publicity manager of local content. “We’ve added rounds to make it bigger and more action-packed.” Here’s what else is new:
1 The stage has been revamped. For the seven Blind Audition episodes (5 Feb-19 Mar), “There’s a special floor feature for when a coach (Kahn, Bobby van Jaarsveld, Lira and Karen Zoid are returning) hits the buzzer to turn their chair,” hints Ingrid.
2 For the four Battle Rounds, episodes 8-11 (26 Mar-16 April), things have been spiced up and the coaches will pair up singers from their team to perform the same song on a “uniquely designed boxing ring-styled set”.
3 The coaches will now be able to “steal” two talents from the other teams in the Battle Rounds. “If their coach doesn’t pick a talent after their battle, the others can jump in and take them for their teams,” say Ingrid.
4 There will also be a new panel of co-coaches, who’ll be introduced in the 2 April episode. “They’ll include more well-known artists who don’t all perform in English,” teases Ingrid.
5 The brand-new Knock-Out rounds (23 Apr-7 May) will see each coach pair the remaining talent to sing a song of their choice – and they’ll only learn who they’re singing against when they step onto the stage!
6 The live shows (from 21 May on) will see a scenery change and Lani Lombard, M-Net’s head of publicity and special projects, teases that “we’re using a much bigger venue [and still secret] for the live shows” before the winner is crowned on 9 July 2017.
