Girlfriend’s Guide To Divorce

-

Season 3 M-Net Edge (*102) 20:00 Comedy

In season 1 of sitcom Girlfriends’ Guide To Divorce (2014- current), newly divorced mom Abby (Liza Edelstein) was unsure of how to use her freedom, especially when it came to her love life. But now in season 3 and backed by her tight-knit group of single-ish gal pals, Abby is ready to let go of her married past and start living in the now. “She meets someone [her son’s baseball coach Mike – played by James Lesure, Alex in action show Blue Bloods (2010- current)]. He is a real, legitimate prospect for her for the first time,” Lisa reveals. “But Mike’s in an awkward time of his own life, so it becomes complicated for that reason.”

It’s time for Abby to move on from her ex-hubby Jake (Paul Adelstein) and realise that finding the ideal partner doesn’t always have to be tricky. This season sees her taking giant steps – she’s no longer in stalemate about her career as a writer or in which direction her love life is going. Plus, Abby has support and motivation from her friends and she’ll grow close to Barbara (Retta) in upcoming episodes.

The sitcom’s already been renewed for a further two seasons thanks to its season 2 ratings that skyrocketed to 765 000 viewers per episode in the US. Lisa reckons the rise is thanks largely to the show’s relationships “being universally human”. “Abby is messed up and dramatic,” she says. “I think everybody, in and out of a relationship, can relate to these human stories. They’re complex, funny and tragic.”
