Arrogant and scheming businessman KK (Macdonald Ndou) is always thinking about ways to gain more power and wealth. And his latest plan involves taking something very important from the Mukwevhos, his rival family. Thing is, KK knows that the Mukwevhos won’t give him any of their possessions, so he arranges for an old family friend to do the asking.

LAND OF THE ALL MIGHTY

On Monday 6 March, KK phones the Mukwevho family friend (the show has sworn us to secrecy over their identity) to talk about his plan. “KK knows that there is this beautiful land in Venda called Tshatshingo. In Tshatshingo, there are no buildings, just wildlife and untouched scenery. KK sees this place as an opportunity to make money for himself by building a resort in the area. Once he establishes the resort, he can start a family business and pass it down to his son Mudi (Thabelo Makaka- vhule),” Macdonald says. Later, KK’s partner reveals something worrying – the place that KK’s after is actually the Mukwevhos’ sacred land of Tshinawo.

CHIEF WOES

Macdonald says that “the sacred land of Tshinawo is used by the Mukwevhos to praise the ancestors and practice family rituals”. In other words, the ground that KK wants to build his resort on isn’t something that will be given easily. On Thursday 9 March, Chief Azwindini (Gabriel Temudzani) hears through the royal family’s witchdoctor Mulimisi (Humbulani Tsharani) that someone has inquired about the sacred lands and realises that it must have been KK, who asked about it during his recent visit in Thathe. “The chief is furious when he realises what KK is up to and calls KK to meet with him and talk things through.” On Friday 10 March, KK and Azwindini meet but neither of the strong-headed men are willing to negotiate.

CRY OF THE ANCESTORS

But on Monday 13 March, Mulimisi has a prophetic dream and rushes to share it with KK and Azwindini. As Macdonald reveals, “Mulimisi’s dream was about the ancestors harming the Mukwevho family and KK’s family if KK goes through with building on the sacred lands of Tshinawo. Azwindini is shocked by Mulimisi’s dream but KK thinks that it’s just hocus pocus to throw him off.” While KK doesn’t think much of Mulimisi’s vision, he does think that the Mukwevhos will find any excuse to stop him from going through with his resort plans. “He doesn’t see any harm in interfering with traditions and he isn’t going to let a dream stop him from doing so,” states Macdonald.
