It’s everything that Hlengiwe (Gugu Gumede) never dared to dream. Not only is Melusi Mdletshe (Glen Gabela) back in KwaMashu from Monday 27 February, but when his wife Zandile (Leleti Khumalo) is forced to rub his face in the fact that she’s in love with another man, it’s Hlengiwe (aka MaMlambo) that he turns to for understanding on Monday 13 March. “It’s so very unexpected,” says Gugu. “She thought he’d gone away forever, so she moved on. But she’s had feelings for this man for 25 years and those feelings start to roll back.” Now MaMlambo is setting out to make a move on her friend’s husband!

“It’s a do or die moment for her and when she feels that Mdletshe is also interested, she goes crazy,” says Gugu. “MaNzuza (Zandile) has been through all these emotional rollercoasters and MaMlambo has supported her through all of them. MaMlambo doesn’t have any family. I think this is a pivotal point that makes her say, ‘I am going in. If the friendship with MaNzuza dies, it dies. This is the man that I want. This is my one chance at happiness.’”
MAMLAMBO IN LOVE
She’s going to have to fight for his attention though. “This guy just came back for his wife. And that’s irritating to her. She’s really pressuring him: ‘Love me, love me! We’re meant to be together. It’ll be great. I can take better care of you than MaNzuza ever did or ever will’. She’s overbearing. She just wants him to focus on her,” says Gugu.
When Melusi still won’t talk about anything but Zandile with MaMlambo, she makes it crystal clear what she’s offering him: her home, her bed and her body! Gugu’s delighted at this shocking twist. “I’m happy that the viewers will get to see her grow because love changes you. You start dressing differently, you start looking different and start acting differently and there’s this glow about her. I was so glad to show that – and not just the crazy side that she’s always showing.” But Pastor Mdletshe had better look out because his new lover isn’t willing to be anyone’s guilty secret…
