Elizabeth (Amanda Manku) wants Lelo (Amanda du-Pont) to pay for making her boyfriend Mangaliso (Bongani Masondo) think that she’s using drugs and then stealing him from her. Lizzy is furious and is focussing on revenge, but her voiceof-reason mom Principal Thobakgale (Elizabeth Serunye) intervenes on Wednesday 15 March and advises her daughter to move on and rebuild her life rather than waste her time and energy on taking revenge. “She hopes that her daughter will let bygones be bygones, forget about Lelo and let Mangaliso go for good,” says Elizabeth.

MOVING ON

Mangaliso still has a soft spot for Lizzy but he can’t imagine a life without his daughter Nosi (Mbalenhle Tabu) – and that means his babymama Lelo. She threatened to take Nosi away in early March if Mangaliso didn’t dump Lizzy for her and Lelo goes one better on Monday 20 March by getting Mangaliso to agree to marry her. News travels quickly to Turfloop and by Tuesday 21 March, Principal Thobakgale hears about the engagement and worries what it will do to her daughter.

“Principal Thobakgale wasn’t happy about Lizzy and Mangaliso dating [in late 2015],” Elizabeth says, “because she thinks that he is beneath her daughter. She wants Lizzy to be the best that she can be. She always had high goals for her and until she got with Mangaliso, Lizzy lived an exemplary life.” Behind Principal Thobakgale’s doubts about Mangaliso, which led to the mom and daughter’s relationship being strained, lies love and a deep concern as she doesn’t want to see Lizzy getting hurt. And she knew that there was a good chance that this would happen if Lizzy was dating Mangaliso. “Her fears are coming true but Principal Thobakgale will protect Lizzy where Mangaliso and Lelo are concerned,” Elizabeth reveals.

LEADING THE WAY

She isn’t the only worried mom. Mangaliso’s mother Mrs Sangweni (Faith Kekana) arrives on Thursday 23 March to meet her future daughter-in-law but she’s unhappy about what her son is getting into, especially after learning of Lelo’s prison past on Friday 24 March. Later that day, Mrs Sangweni announces that her family won’t be part of the lobola negotiations and Elizabeth says that “all moms want their children to be the best they can be. And both of these ladies feel that is not possible for their children with Lelo in the picture.”
