Red Records manager Bongi (Thembi Seete) and her business associate Lungile (Meshack Mavuso) have been keeping things hush-hush on the romance front ever since they slept together on Tuesday 28 March. They’re hiding their sexcapades from Bongi’s intrusive daughter Zinzi (Ntando Duma), who’s got a crush on Lungile. Thembi adds that “Zinzi wants Bongi all to herself – Bongi’s attention should be focussed on her daughter. Zinzi doesn’t think that Lungile deserves her celebrity mom”.

But there’s no stopping Lungile and on Monday 3 April, he stands in the Red Records reception area and reveals that he and Bongi are an item. “Zinzi is furious! She doesn’t want anything to do with her mom’s relationship with Lungile,” says Thembi. In a huff, Zinzi leaves for New York the next day, on Tuesday 4 April, leaving Lungile to prove to Bongi – and everyone else – that he’s worthy of her love. “And he does so by saving Red from financial ruin and by doing what’s in the company’s best interests,” says Thembi.

BRINGING BACK THE SPARKLE

Part of Lungile’s turnaround strategy at Red is to bring in Reneilwe (Amo Chidi),

a young star with a bright future who is signed to rival label Dizzy Records. Lungile makes his move on Thursday 6 April and seals the deal on Friday 7 April when he convinces Rene’s pal and music producer Sifiso (Dumi Masilela) that signing with Red Records is the best way forward for Rene’s career.

Lungile’s excited about telling Bongi that he’s officially signed Reneilwe on Monday 10 April, especially because he thinks that this deal will bring in money and solve Red’s financial woes. Bongi has mixed feelings though – she’s jealous of Rene’s fame and Thembi says that “Bongi thinks that this younger and sexier superstar is about to steal her shine”. She puts that aside though because she knows how hard Lungile’s working to put Red on the map again. “She doesn’t want Red to lose him by voicing her jealousy,” reveals Thembi. And she doesn’t want to lose Lungile. “He’s filling the gap left by her husband Doc’s (Dumisani Mbebe) death in mid 2016. With Zinzi gone now, Bongi will do anything to keep him happy, even if it means accepting Rene… for now.”
