It’s one thing to wear a diamond collar, it’s quite another to feel the tug of a leash on it. Ever since Yvonne (Kgomotso Christopher) was forced to crawl back to Neo (Jerry Mofokeng Wa Makhetha) following her botched wedding to Damon (Craig Urbani) on Thursday 9 February, she’s gone from being Neo’s partner in crime to being his “pet”. “She’s running all these poker games for him and getting loads of money and he just gives her R2 and says, ‘Well done,’ and takes the rest of the money,” explains Kgomotso. “Or he’ll give her R50 to buy a Wimpy’s lunch. She feels trapped. She loves the easy life that comes with Neo, but she feels ill-treated and not taken seriously.” Now Yvonne is out to bite the hand that feeds her… but she doesn’t want to show her teeth.
THE PERFECT PARTNER
Fate drops the perfect solution at her feet on Thursday 6 April after ex- convict Neo beats up poker player Phillip (Dan Robbertse) following a “miscom- munication” about Yvonne’s status as Neo’s hostess – that’s hostess, not escort. “Yvonne realises that Phillip is the one person she can go back to and say, ‘If you want revenge, how about this?’” And they come up with a twisty plan for a casino heist that will leave Yvonne looking like the victim alongside Neo. “She is so desperate that all she is expecting is that it’s not going to go wrong and they will never be suspected,” adds Kgomotso.
THE PERFORMANCE OF HER LIFE
Yvonne puts on an award-winning performance for the security cameras on Monday 10 April.” I needed to play it as a real hostage situation,” explains Kgomotso. “As a viewer, you’ve got to believe it. And Neo, when he looks at the CCTV footage afterwards, he has to believe it. That is how a lot of inside jobs are actually cracked – you see that the person isn’t so convincing at being a victim in that situation.” But even if they do pull it off, Yvonne won’t be out of the woods just yet. Neo will be watching and if he sees her suddenly rolling in diamonds, we guarantee that he’ll do something a lot worse than smacking her nose with a rolled up newspaper!
Yvonne spots her opportunity and grabs it. Phillip could be Yvonne’s winning card to freedom.
