I want to break free
Lincoln calls in a favour from Nina to get him out the slammer.

Disgraced businessman Lincoln (Lindani Nkosi) is thrown in jail on Monday 27 March and the moment the door is slammed shut behind him, he starts scheming and making plans for breaking out. On Thursday 30 March, he’s hatched what he thinks is the perfect plan – with the best accomplice in town!

And for help, Lincoln’s turned to the shadiest woman in The Deep – Nina (Khabonina Qubeka). He makes her an offer later on Thursday 30 March that she just can’t say no to – a fat paycheque for his freedom. Unable to resist the smell of money, Nina puts in a call that same day to her prison contact: Warden Mthombeni (Carol Behani) – Nina knows that the warden is in a vulnerable financial position and could easily be swayed into helping out with the promise of cash. “Mthombeni is a hard woman,” Carol explains, “and her husband is disabled, so she’s keen to get involved and hopes to put her reward money towards physiotherapy.”
FOILED ATTEMPT
The first jailbreak attempt takes place on Wednesday 5 April and the plan is for Lincoln to become “sick” (with some help from Mthombeni’s drugs) and for his condition to deteriorate so badly that he needs to be taken to hospital. “On the way to the facility, Mthombeni will assist Lincoln in escaping,” Carol explains. There’s a hitch though and the guards stop Lincoln at the gates on Thursday 6 April and before he knows it, he’s in his cell.
DESPERATE MEASURES
Lincoln realises that Mthombeni is his best shot at a successful breakout and he takes advantage of her vulnerability on Friday 7 April by getting up close and personal. “He lets her get in bed with him and he tells her that he will take care of her. He’s obviously just using her to get what he wants, which is to get out of prison,” adds Carol. Lincoln’s no fool and realises that his plan with Mthombeni isn’t going to happen overnight, so he comes up with another plan on the side. “It involves making friends with the prison security guards,” Carol hints, “but it will require a lot of money. A lot more than just the warden…”
