Life was spiralling out of control for Zama Ngwenya (Linda Mtoba) after doctors told her on Monday 27 March that her heart condition has worsened to the point of her needing transplant to live. She got her wish and with a healthy new heart in her chest, Zama’s got a new outlook on life and she’s ready to move forward with her boyfriend Jabu (Pallance Dladla) on Wednesday 12 April.

NEW BEGINNINGS

But with a new life comes new responsibilities and the first challenge facing Zama is making things right between her man and his estranged dad Mpiyakhe (Siyabonga Twala). Linda says that “there has been some restraint between Jabu and his father because of their disagreements with Zama’s family over business. It’s no secret that the families are at war with each other over the lucrative taxi industry. Since Jabu and Zama have decided to remain together and make things work, Zama encourages Jabu to repair his relationship with his dad at Jabu’s sister Thandeka’s (Nomzamo Mbatha) umkhehlo [pre-wedding celebration that takes place on Thursday 20 April].” She hopes that there’s a reconciliation because it will make her appear to be “the glue that keeps the Zungu family together”.

DREARY GOODBYES

While Zama is being welcomed into the Zungu family on Tuesday 18 April, she must say goodbye to her own family. “It’s bittersweet for the Ngwenya family for many reasons. Judas (Menzi Ngubane) is losing his the apple of his eye. Qaphela (Abdul Khoza) is losing a little sister and Beauty ( Thuli Thabethe) well… she’s in denial. Zama definitely wants to wipe the slate clean and begin her own life with Jabu, where there is no violent business involved and if it means leaving her family behind, then so be it,” Linda reveals.

A NEW LOVE STORY

The Zungu women are excited by the prospect of a new sister and daughter entering their family on Wednesday 19 April, as well as another big wedding. As Linda explains, “Jabu and Zama’s love story didn’t begin well. They had to go through a lot of hardships but they overcame the obstacles and go against the odds to be together. In a way, Zama’s new heart gave her a second chance at life and she hopes that this new start is the right path.”
