Mangaliso (Bongani Masondo) is putting his wedding plans with his ex- con fiancée Lelo’s (Amanda du-Pont) on hold on Wednesday 12 April when his name is dragged through the mud by his friend Bontle (Keamogetswe Leburu). She accuses the wannabe musician of stealing her song and it catches Mangaliso by surprise. “He forgot that he heard it from Bontle a while ago and actually believes that he came up with song,” says Bongani. “It wasn’t Mangaliso’s intention to steal the music, honestly!”

But Bontle’s not letting him get off without a fight. She asks Jazzy T (Karabo Mokhubela), her boyfriend who’s also Mangaliso’s best friend, to get her song back on Thursday 13 April. “She’s willing to go all out. Jazzy T knows that if this song blows up [on radio], it could make Mangaliso very rich and they want a piece of the pie, because it’s her pie!” explains Bongani.

MUSICAL MISTAKE

At first Mangaliso sticks with his story, that the track is his. But then on Friday 14 April, Jazzy T tells him that Bontle has the original version of the song and “Mangaliso is terrified!” says Bongani. “It’s Bontle’s original composition and Mangaliso is scared that people will label him a thief. There’s nothing that he can do to stop her from coming forward with this.”

Lelo steps in to do damage control and clear her love’s name on Tuesday 18 April but it’s already too late despite her best efforts. The word is out that Mangaliso is using stolen music and journalists start phoning the singer non-stop. “This stresses him. It’s not only his career on the line but also his friendship with Jazzy T that’s at stake here,” Bongani adds.

CAUSING CHAOS

Things go from bad to worse for the troubled muso on Wednesday 19 April when news of his dishonesty really hits home. “Everyone in the industry starts questioning Mangaliso’s credibility,” says Bongani. “That leads to them questioning the work he’s done in the past, work that really was his.” Mangaliso’s desperate to fix this mess on Friday 21 April, especially with Lelo who’s disappointed because she feels that he’s ruined their lives. They were going to marry but they must clear his name first. “Wedding plans are a touchy subject,” Bongani hints.
