Suidooster fans are still coming to terms with friendly waiter Jerome’s (Danny Ross) death on Thursday 6 April and it’s clear that he’s left a gaping void as his family and friends struggle with their loss. A tough road lies ahead and we’ve visited his nearest and dearest to find out how Jerome’s loss is going to impact them.

LIFE AFTER JEROME

The person most are worried about is Mymoena (Jill Levenberg), who was left in a coma following the car crash she and Jerome were in on Thursday 16 March while they raced to Bianca’s (Simone Biscombe) side as she gave birth. While Mymoena’s still in a coma, Jerome appeared to only have had a few cuts and bruises, but no one knew the true injuries and he suffered an aneurysm on Thursday 30 March and died.

Jerome’s mother Bridgette (Denise Newman) has taken her son’s death the hardest and she tries to hide it on Wednesday 12 April when her sister Lee-Ann (Portia Joel) reaches out. “In typical Bridgette style, she handled it well on the outside, but on the inside she’s shattered and has fallen to pieces. But she wants to show the world her strength,” says Denise.

Jerome’s family the Octobers haven’t been brought together by this tragedy though – Jerome’s sister Nicci (Gerwen Simon) isn’t coping well and she tells her parents that she needs to get out of town for a break on Thursday 13 April. “She needs a fresh start because her life’s been hectic for the last few months and she’s taking strain,” says Gerwen.

As for Jerome’s dad Ian (Abduraghmaan Adams), he too is broken and is looking for someone to blame for stealing his son from him. He lashes out at his doctor Siya (Gantane Kusch) on Monday 17 April and it feels like Ian is about to fall to pieces too.

NO TURNING BACK

“When Danny told us last year that he was leaving, we knew that there was no way Jerome could bow out without some kind of drama,” says Suidooster’s publicist Wilmer Müller. “Jerome is a central character and we couldn’t keep him as a ghost in the background, giving fans hope that he’d return one day. Jerome and Danny leaving Suidooster leaves a huge hole, but soapies are like real life – people come and go and we move forward with things.”
