Pregnant Azania threatens to drop her hubby Chris when he refuses to ditch his painkiller addiction.
When it comes to the finer details, wedding planner Azania (Enhle Maphumulo) is always on top of her game. But it’s a different story with her ex-soccer star hubby Chris (Emmanuel Castis). He’s used painkillers since suffering a career- ending injury, but until his behaviour stands out on Wednesday 26 April, Azania’s been oblivious to how many pills he’s popping. “She is beyond upset. Azania prides herself on her high morals and can’t believe that Chris is putting their marriage on line before their child is born,” explains Enhle. Azania gives her hubby an ultimatum on Thursday 27 April: kick his habit or be kicked to the curb. “Chris has to get clean or he will lose everything he’s ever wanted.”
DO IT OR LOSE IT
Azania wants her hubby to go to rehab on Tuesday 2 May but he’s refusing to budge. “His stubbornness is driving her insane!” says Enhle, whose character wants to bring their child into a loving and caring and safe home. She doesn’t want her new baby raised like she was – she wants Chris to be a responsible father figure and not shady like her father Ace (Sello Sebotsane), who was in prison throughout her childhood. Enhle adds that if she was in this situation with her DJ hubby Black Coffee, she’d do the same as Azania. “Marriage is a big commitment and it’s about helping each other – I’d stand by his side and help.” Azania puts her foot down on Wednesday 3 May and realises that “this has to work and Chris needs to fall in line or else.”
DAMSEL IN DISTRESS
“Chris has always wanted to be a father and he’s excited about the pregnancy,” says Enhle, “but Azania’s threats fall on deaf ears” and he digs his heels in on Tuesday 9 May. Azania’s well aware that she needs to put their baby first and “this difficult position isn’t helping. She loves Chris and she’s willing to be cruel to be kind. She will take away his dad dreams if that will make him a better father in the end”.
