Sweet Summer Newman (Hunter King) is head over heels for shady Luca Santori (Miles Gaston Villanueva) despite her family’s distaste for the Santori crime family’s son and her dad Nick (Joshua Morrow) calling Luca a “jerk” and a “pig” to his daughter’s face. But while they’re busy planning their engagement party this fortnight, her aunt Victoria (Amelia Heinle) is down in Mexico using a combination of sex and sweet-talk to persuade her ex-lover Travis (Michael Roark) to return to Genoa City and blow Luca out of the water…

Victoria’s sex-magic works – on Friday 5 May, with the wedding due to happen the very next day, Travis arrives to crash Summer and Luca’s engagement party. Insults fly as Travis calls Luca a “bottomfeeding, backstabbing cockroach”. But when a disbelieving Summer also resists Luca’s pleas to elope with him, he finally reveals the truth: he really did sabotage the Newman oil facilities and he did it all to impress the Newmans. Talk about your dealbreakers – a real Newman wouldn’t have been caught.

Luca’s wrestling Summer for the telephone after she demands that he turn himself in on Monday 8 May when Summer’s stepfather Jack (Peter Bergman) walks into the situation. Cornered, Luca snaps and takes Summer hostage. Fortunately Jack knows the real magic word for these situations and the mere mention of Victor’s (Eric Braeden) name is enough to make Luca drop Summer like a hot potato. Was it all just a scheme though? It seems not. As the police lead Luca out in handcuffs, he tells Summer, “I did love you, Summer. That was real.” Now excuse us as we sulk because Y&R couldn’t wait until Summer and Luca’s wedding ceremony to drop that Travis-bomb. NB! See more on p30.
