1s And 2s
Season 4 SABC1 (*191) 21:00 Reality
The search for Mzansi’s next best DJ returns with reality competition show 1s And 2s (2014-current), where contestants have to master turntables to stay in the game. The hopefuls need to prove to DJ Naves, DJ Sphectacula and a weekly guest judge that their spinning is on-point to win studio equipment and a record deal valued at R100 000, but unlike previous seasons, the contestants will now take part in two reward challenges that could push them through to the next battles. “It’s exciting,” says host Thando Thabethe (Nolwazi on Generations The Legacy, see p14). “The show discovers home-grown talent and it’s always a great experience being a part of that journey!”
What separates 1s And 2s from the other shows you’ve been part of? It’s about grooming new talent and I like being a part of all that. And I’m working with a team of people who think on their feet and adapt – and I learn from that. And your favourite section of the show is… The Radio Show Challenge! I’m a radio girl and it’s always exciting to see the contestants sweat on this one. It tests and proves to everyone that radio isn’t as easy as they think. Have you learnt any DJ tricks from the judges and contestants? Yes! I started DJing just after season 1, so I can definitely say that spending time on set has contributed to me being a better DJ [Laughs]. What part of the season stands out for you? When we get to crown the Master Of Spin in the final episode. It’s a great experience and a learning curve seeing the winner in high spirits, knowing that we’ve helped them start their dream career path.
