Raj and Kgothalo are in love again but is it the right thing to do?

-

Businessman Rajesh (Jack Devnarain) is letting his inner Cupid take over now that his business-school lover Kgothalo (Katlego Danke) is seemingly single again after her hubby Tyson (Shona Ferguson) left in Feb this year. And from Tuesday 2 May, it looks like Kgothalo’s ready for Rajesh again…

MAKING MOVES

“Kgothalo needed to be rid of Tyson as he always brought her a sense of uncertainty. Now that he’s left, she finds herself in a safe space with Raj and he likes it too,” says Jack. On Tuesday 2 May, they meet up and their reminiscing about their years studying is like dropping a flame on petrol. But while their romance is ready for ignition, Jack adds that “their reconnection is tentative because Tyson’s presence is still lingering in The Deep, which frustrates Raj. There’s this sexual tension but neither are forcing anything”.

TAKE IT SLOW

That doesn’t mean Kgothalo is ready to just jump into bed with her suitor. Despite her rocky marriage to Tyson, they’re still husband and wife and they also have kids [who’re not seen onscreen]. When Kgothalo explains her position to Raj on Wednesday 3 May, Jack says that his character is clearly upset but “Raj is aware of Kgothalo’s commitment phobia. She wants to offer him something special but she makes it clear that she is not ready for a full-blown relationship”. That doesn’t mean it’s over – Raj is a businessman and tactician and for the time being, he’s okay with just spending time with Kgothalo. “Everything they talk about has a reference to their past. They gave each other pet names and they shared a number of common interests. When Raj talks to Kgothalo, it’s like he is coming home to familiar face,” explains the actor.

HOUSE RULES

And that’s literally what happens on Thursday 4 May – Kgothalo moves in with Raj when The Duncan, where she was staying, comes under attack. “The hotel is declared unsafe so she moves in with Raj until things blow- over,” adds Jack. The sudden living arrangements aren’t ideal though because “it feels like Raj and Kgothalo are now forced into each other’s company”. Instead of bringing each other closer, they’re now further apart and possibly on the verge of destroying their relationship, explains Jack. “Raj tries to stay positive about the situation with Kgothalo being in his space but it feels like he’s swimming around a fishbowl.”
