Dad is slipping into Mom’s shoes when she goes back to work in Man With A Plan.
Man With A Plan Season 1 Wednesdays (from 31 May) M-Net (*101) 19:30
Matt LeBlanc has grown up since his days as struggling-actor ladies’ man Joey Tribbiani on Friends (1994-2004). He’s settled down in sitcom Man With A Plan (2016current) as construction boss Adam, who’s married to stay-at-home mom Andi (Liza Snyder), with kids Kate (Grace Kaufman), Teddy (Matthew McCann) and Emme (Hala Finley). Except the cat’s been thrown among the pigeons when Andi goes back to work. Cue mild panic as Adam’s told to “husband up” and take care of the kids a bit more. “I’m not getting any younger and I’ve never played a dad,” says 49-year- old Matt. “I’m a dad in reality and I’ve never played a guy in a relationship, so I thought this was the time to take that next step.”
But while Matt’s used to cleaning up after kids and dealing with their teachers, Adam is oblivious to the impending drama. “Adam was only there after work and the kids were cleaned up from school and on their
best behaviour when Dad gets home. Now Adam sees behind the curtain, the real part of how colourful it is to be a parent sometimes,” jokes Matt. That includes situations like…
1 In episode 1, Adam drops Emme at kindergarten and meets fulltime stay-at-home dad Lowell (Matt Cook). Macho Adam worries that he will also turn to soft mush like Lowell if he continues his home- dad duties. 2 Episode 3 (14 June) sees Adam in the dogbox with Emme’s teacher when he forgets to make a puppet for the theatre show. Just wait until Andi hears that Adam’s trying to undo all her hard work of getting Emme into the school’s most prestigious class… Adam and his eldest daughter 3 Kate are home alone in episode 8 (9 July) while Andi’s stuck at the zoo with Teddy and Emme. Of course it’s the perfect time for Kate to get her first period and Adam tries his best to help, although he’s more nervous. 4 And in episode 11 (9 August), Adam and Andi find topless girl pics on Teddy’s tablet device. While Adam’s inwardly proud that it was so easy to give his son “the talk”, turns out it was actually self- conscious Kate who was looking at the models and not young Teddy…
