Happiness for Justin Bonello is sitting around a fire with friends and a braai – what else did you expect?
The final of The Ultimate Braai Master (2012-current) was great, but I have always wondered where Justin Bonello’s love for braai comes from? – JULIAS, VIA EMAIL “It’s something from my childhood,” says the TV chef. “I was lucky and our family loved to get out of the city every weekend and visit vast, open spaces. When you’re in those wide open beautiful spaces, only the African TV (fire) and a braai will do.” He adds that whether it was mussels, perlemoen or meat, “From those early days, there was also the necessity of having to know what to do with nature’s bounty. Those cooking experiments were responsible for me learning to love cooking on the open fire.”
