Move & groove
The judging panel of World Of Dance know a thing or two about shaking it on the dancefloor.
World Of Dance Season 1 Fridays (from 9 June) M-Net (*101) 19:30
Reality dance show World Of Dance (2017- current) is strutting onto our screens. And while we’re looking forward to contestants literally putting their best feet forward to win $1 million (R13 million) cash, it’s the four judges we’re more interested in for now. And for good reason…
1. NE-YO
The 37-year- old singer-songwriter is also a dancer and choreographer. He studied at the Las Vegas Academy Of The Arts and has a critical eye for style. Judging style: tough, firm and fair. TV claim to fame: guest judge on America’s Got Talent (2006- current) in 2016. He says: “You have to earn that million. This has to be the best of the best!”
2. JENNIFER LOPEZ
The 47-year-old New Yorker has been dancing for over 35 years, starting in 1991 on In Living Color (1990-1994). Judging style: the mom figure who makes the contestants pizza. TV claim to fame: playing Harlee in cop show Shades Of Blue (2016- current). She says: “I love dance at a core level. I consider myself a dancer first because I became a singer and an actress after.”
3. DEREK HOUGH
Dancing is in his blood – the 32-yearold’s parents met ballroom dancing and his grandparents were US national champions. Plus, Derek’s been winning competitions since he was a teenager. Judging style: loveable goofball who puts the dancers at ease with his jokes. TV claim to fame: winning six seasons of Dancing With The Stars (2005- current). He says: “We have performers from around the world doing every style!”
4. JENNA DEWAN-TATUM
The 36-year-old met her hubby Channing Tatum on the set of 2006 dance movie Step Up and was handpicked by Janet Jackson as a back-up dancer. Judging style: all-American sweetheart. TV claim to fame: 2014 judge on So You Think You Can Dance (2005- current). She says: “I’ve been dancing my whole life. I’m even dancing backstage here. I just can’t stop moving!”
