Season 4 M-Net City (*115) 23:00 Drama
Gustaf Skarsgård plays boat-building trickster Floki in Vikings (2013-current) and like his character, the 36-year-old Swede likes his privacy. “I strive to keep my own balance and sanity, but it can be more challenging at times,” he says. “For me, it’s fun to have that extreme of a character to play with, especially with all these layers – the jealousy, the hatred, the caring, the loving sides.”
He’s related to Alexander and 1
Stellan Skarsgård. Forty-year-old Alex (Eric Northman in sci-fi show True Blood, 2008-2014) is Gustaf’s brother, while 65-year-old Stellan (Erik Selvig in the Thor films, 2011-current) is his dad.
He’s even got a famous actor god2
father – Peter Stormare, who’s onscreen currently as violent ancient deity Czernobog in sci-fi show American Gods (2017-current; Mondays, M-Net 22:00).
Forget about adding weight, the 3
camera on Vikings makes Gustaf look short. At 1.93m, he’s 5cm taller than Clive Standen (Rollo).
Floki’s laugh and dance is some4
thing that Gustaf came up and he says that “I was sitting in my hotel room working on high-pitched, falsetto giggles. The creepier it became, the more like ‘home’ it became for Floki.”
Slippery characters are pretty apt 5
roles for the actor – his middle name “Orm” means “serpent”.
He’s not just an actor – Gustaf is 6
an award-winning writer, director and producer. His credits include 2011 short drama film Manniskor Helt Utan Betydelse and 2013 drama movie Vi.
Gustaf was married to Swedish ac7
tress Hanna Alström from 1999 to 2005 and he’s currently dating another Swedish actress, little-known 33-yearold Malin Buska.
