Think that operating on the most powerful man in the world is stressful? It gets worse in single-season drama Hostages (2013-2014): if Dr Ellen Sanders ( Toni Collette) doesn’t follow her orders, her family dies. And she can’t go to the FBI and report it – one of their top agents is pulling the strings! “I’m doing bad things for a good reason,” says Dylan McDermott, who plays FBI Special Agent and hostage leader Duncan Carlisle. “He’s not good. He’s trying to kill the President he swore to protect. For love.”

WHO’RE THE HOSTAGES?

Brian Sanders (Tate Donovan, Mark in action series 24: Live Another Day, 2014) runs a top estate agency and is cheating on Ellen with his PA. Rebellious teen Morgan (Quinn Shephard, Claire in action show Person Of Interest, 2011-2016) is lying to her parents about a lot of things. And Jake (Mateus Ward, Dustin in cop action show Murder In The First, 20142016) is a trouble magnet – in episode 1 he’s grounded after his “fake ID and booze” cash is found.

THE HIRED GUNS

Archer (Billy Brown, Detective Nate Lahey in drama series How To Get Away With Murder, 2014- current) owes his life to his rescuer Duncan.

Sandrine (Sandrine Holt, Patricia Thornton in action show MacGyver, 2016- current) is Archer’s Marine pal who can’t be trusted by anyone. And Kramer (Rhys Coiro) is Duncan’s brother-in-law who’s trying to saving his leukaemia-stricken sister.

THE MAIN MAN

President Kincaid (James Naughton, William van der Bilt in drama Gossip Girl, 2007-2014) isn’t just hiding a scandalous national secret, he’s also a donor match for Duncan’s wife
