Fana puts the brakes on his relationship with Nolwazi because Mazwi’s still sniffing around.

It takes two to tango in relationships and hotshot lawyer Fana (Mnqobi Duma) thinks that he is the only one on the dancefloor with his on-off girlfriend Nolwazi (Thando Thabethe). He only realises that something’s up on Wednesday 21 June when Nolwazi refuses to go to couple’s therapy and “Fana feels rejected,” says Mnqobi. “He doesn’t understand why she won’t take time off work to focus on their struggling romance.” The actor adds that Fana wants to make it work and he steps back to give her time to cool off. “He wants her to think it though and hopes that she will come running into his arms,” says Mnqobi.
LOOSE ENDS
Nolwazi makes up her mind on Monday 26 June and she wants to make it work with Fana. She is still holding onto her feelings for her married ex-fiancé Mazwi (Musa Ngema), who is Fana’s brother-in-law, but Mnqobi explains that “deep down, Nolwazi knows that she will never come first with Mazwi. She’s in a safe spot with Fana”. He loves her despite their ups and downs and takes her back in an instant, says the actor. Fana is wrapping his arms around her literally and figuratively and Mnqobi says that his character “knows that Nolwazi isn’t in a good headspace. He partially blames himself for that”. Nolwazi was kidnapped in March this year and buried alive by Thabiso (Matli Mohapeloa). Fana was Thabiso’s lawyer years earlier and wasn’t able to keep Thabiso out of prison. Kidnapping Nolwazi was part of the criminal’s revenge plan and Mnqobi adds, “Nolwazi hasn’t healed from that. Fana wants to be there for her now”.
GET A GRIP
Nolwazi’s meddling best friend Getty (Andisiwe Dweba) isn’t sold that Nolwazi is over Mazwi on Wednesday 28 June and she warns Fana about his girl working with her crush. “While Fana trusts Nolwazi, he can’t help but start thinking about Getty’s words the next day, on Thursday 29 June, when he accepts that Nolwazi would rather be at her office than at home with him,” says Mnqobi. What Fana doesn’t know is that Nolwazi and Mazwi aren’t on the same team in their office at Esweni advertising agency. They are arguing about the littlest things but “Fana only knows that Nolwazi is with his brother-in-law and not him,” hints Mnqobi. “His jealousy takes over.”
ON SECOND THOUGHT
Thinking that he’s no longer Nolwazi’s priority, Fana dumps her on Monday 3 July after a heart-to-heart. “What he wants is for her to fight for him,” Mnqobi explains. “He wants her to win back his heart the same way that he’s tried to win her back.” And it seems that his reverse psychology may have worked a day later, on Tuesday 4 July, when he gets an invitation for a date at the Three Tower Hotel.
