When LA’s rich and famous have problems that need to “disappear”, there’s only one man they trust to do the dirty work in drama show Ray Donovan (2013-current) – and that’s Ray himself (Liev Schreiber). With season 2 punching its way onto free-TV from today, what better way to celebrate than by getting to know leading-man Liev a bit better?
1 The Emmy-nominated actor was
born into the arts – his dad is stage actor father Tell Schreiber and his mom is painter Heather Schreiber.
2 His full name is Isaac Liev Schreiber
and the one thing his parents can’t agree about is where his name comes from. Heather says that Liev was named after her favourite author Leo Tolstoy (“Lev” in Russian), while Tell claims it’s from a doctor who saved Heather’s life.
3 The 49-year-old is a jack of all
trades. He’s done thrillers (he was Cotton Weary in Scream, 1996), action sci-fi (as Sabretooth in 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine with Hugh Jackman) and he’s currently working on 2017 animation film My Little Pony: The Movie, voicing The Storm King. “But what I love is Shakespeare all day long,” says Liev.
4 He also loves being a father – Liev
has two sons with his ex-partner Aussie actress Naomi Watts – Alexander Pete (9) and Samuel (7). They never got married while together (2005-2016) but Liev used to call Naomi “my wife”.
5 Liev says that he fell in love with
movies in 1977 when he watched Star Wars: Episode 4 – A New Hope. His had banned him from watching colour TV an movies until then.
6 And like Ray, Liev enjoys boxing. 6
