Like any good soapie, Rhythm City has put its characters through the ringer. Fan favourites like Suffo (Mduduzi Mabaso) have traded a life of crime to become proud papas, while characters like Naomi (Motshidi Motshegwa) shifted from pleasant to prisoners behind bars. Here are some of our top jawdroppers from Rhythm City’s decade of soapie drama…

10 There was murder mystery in 2007 when music power-couple Lucilla and Miles (KB Motsilanyane and Peter Sephuma) were threatened by gospel singer Sam ( Wandile Molebatsi) exposing his affair with Lu.

9 Stone (Zenzo Ngqobe) stunned his loved ones by ditching his bride-to-be Charlotte (Nozipho Nkelemba) at the altar for his pal Thula ( Wright Ngubeni) in January 2009.

8 Niki’s (Nolo Phiri) lies landed her on the pavement in May 2011 when Miles discovered that she was lying about being his long-lost daughter and was just after his cash.

7 Naomi wasn’t all that humble in her quest for love in June 2013: she held Lucilla hostage, destroyed Miles’s marriage and then took his prized possession: his record label.

6 Emmanuel’s (Nkosi Cengani) bad behaviour hit new lows in April 2015 when he got addicted to street-drug nyaope and almost destroyed his family in the process.

5 Suffo fought a wife war in August 2015 when he told wife Niki that he was also marrying Puleng (Tebogo Khalo) with or without approval.

4 Mamokete (Connie Chiume) was shot dead by Gadifele (Ferry Jele) in April 2016 while trying to get a toy for Gadifele’s niece, who was staying with the Khuse family at the time.

3 Doc (Dumisani Mbebe) was killed by his fiancée Bongi (Thembi Seete) – he fell and hit his head when Bongi tried to stop him strangling his mistress Lerato (Samu Ndlovu) on his wedding day in November 2016.

2 Suffocate was ready to return to his gangster ways in November 2016 after learning that his brother Themba (Sphamandla Dhludhlu) had slept with both of his wives.

1 And top shock was in June 2017: gangster David (Jamie Bartlett) didn’t just learn that he had a daughter named Pearl (Petronella Tshuma) – he almost slept with her too!
