Sci-fi: Game Of Thrones

The land of Westeros is about to be plunged into full-scale war – winter is drawing closer in season 7 of Game Of Thrones!

- Game Of Thrones Season 7 Mondays (from 17 July) M-Net (*101) 21:30 (express Monday mornings at 03:00)

“Absolute chaos is coming,” tease the cast of epic fantasy series Game Of Thrones (2011- current). Creator David Benioff adds that “we have been talking about ‘ the coming war’ for the longest time. That war is almost here!” Fans have waited over a year for the penultimate season and we’re not even getting the usual 10 episodes. Instead, there will be seven (episodes 6 and 7 will both be over 70 minutes long) that Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) hints won’t drag out: “Things that normally take a season to tell will now take an episode!” So what lies ahead for the families fighting for the Iron Throne?

HELLFIRE & BRIMSTONE

The Mother Of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) is armed to the teeth! Her six-season exile is over and she’s sailing into Westeros with her army of Unsullied soldiers and “dragons that are the size of 747 jetliners,” says director Matt Shakman. Emilia smirks: “The next battle makes season 6 (2016) look like a tea party!”

STARKS AT ARMS

Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) fed 1

her vile husband Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) to his hounds and fought off dodgy Petyr Baelish (Aiden Gillen). Every man in Westeros other than her brothers should be wary around Sansa.

Bran (Isaac Hempstead Wright) has 2

important info following his outof-body mind trick in season 6’s finale (June 2016): his brother Jon’s real name. Isaac’s interview with Empire magazine claims that Jon is “Jaehaerys Targaryen. And that could change everything!”

Jon Snow (Kit Harington) isn’t 3

Ned Stark’s (Sean Bean) bastard son. But if he is Jaehaerys – the fabled Prince That Was Promised – Jon will be expected to save the world using a flaming sword called Lightbringer. Makes coming back from the dead in season 6 seem easy…

4 Arya (Maisie Williams) is expected to put her skills as a Faceless Men Of Braavos assassin to good use. She wants payback from everyone who turned on her family and that list is as long as the road to Kings Landing…

LANNISTERS IN LIMBO

Queen Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) isn’t budging from the throne after season 5’s Walk Of Atonement and youngest son King Tommen’s (DeanCharles Chapman) season 6 suicide while Cersei blew up Kings Landing. And Lena has an ominous warning: “The queen is done playing games!” Kingslayer Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has been a lame duck since losing his sword hand in season 3 (2013) but he isn’t seeing eyeto- eye with his sister-lover Cersei. “It’s going to be messy this season,” explains Nikolaj, “but he may not be capable of killing Cersei even after all she’s done.” While Peter Dinklage has kept quiet about Tyrion’s storyline, he is sailing into Westeros at the side of The Mother Of Dragons. Emilia has joked that “we’re yet to see Tyrion without his clothes on…”
