Thandaza (Sindi Dlathu) and James (Dingaan Mokebe) have been running construction company Basadi since Thandaza was fired from rival firm MMC in 2015. But that partnership faces new pressures on Monday 24 July when Thandaza learns that money is missing. So what now for the CEO and head of marketing James?

MONEY IS A WORRY

“The auditors tell Thandaza that the books aren’t adding up and that a big sum of money has vanished,” explains Dingaan. And the trail leads to James’s marketing division. Dingaan reveals that his character is “kicked out his office” on Thursday 27 July by orders from the auditors. “James feels embarrassed and ashamed in front of his coworkers,” says Dingaan. At this point, James doesn’t know why he is being forced out of the building and it’s up to Thandaza to tell him the truth.

FRIENDSHIP OVER

Tensions simmer on Friday 28 July as Thandaza comes clean with him about the missing money that the audit has revealed. “James is shocked when she tells him what’s going on. And he is furious because Thandaza is implying that he has been mishandling or even stealing money from Basadi,” explains the actor. The financial woes create a major rift between the pair on Monday 31 July and Dingaan elaborates: “It affects their relationship and everything that they have built so far. Why would Thandaza think that he would steal from ‘ their’ company? James has been supportive of Basadi since day 1 and when Thandaza wasn’t ‘right in the head’ [in 2015], James took over the company as acting CEO. They’ve been through thick and thin whether it be through personal or private problems.”

TROUBLES ARE MULTIPLYING

James wants to confront Thandaza and prove that he has nothing to do with the missing money, but he learns that she is in a predicament of her own on Tuesday 1 August. “Thandaza doesn’t want to talk to James about business in this manner – she wants to run away from it. She doesn’t even want to talk with the auditors and lawyers,” says Dingaan. Being the caring friend that he is, James makes it his mission to find a solution to the money predicament later the same day. And that’s where even more drama starts taking shape. James starts talking to power-hungry business-woman Matshidiso (Buhle Samuels) and Dingaan smirks, “Nothing good comes from Matshidiso, so things will get interesting…”
